| CHAIRMAN EARL E. SMITH RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ARTS AWARD |
Atlanta
Mayor Shirley Franklin recently presented the 2005 Founders’ Award to
Earl Smith during the Regional Leadership Forum’s 11th Annual Meeting.
The event, held at the Savannah College of Art and Design, celebrated
the “Power of the Arts.”
The Regional Leadership Forum Founders’ Award is presented to an
individual who has demonstrated courageous leadership, exhibited
vision, worked collaboratively with others and stimulated
future-focused actions in the Atlanta region.
“Earl Smith is a perfect fit for this award’s criteria,” Franklin
said. “He is an outstanding example of servant leadership – constantly
giving of his time and energy for a better-rounded, culturally aware
metro region.”
Smith is chairman of the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority. |

COBB GALLERIA CENTRE WINS BEST OF SHOW
IN CONVENTION CENTER PROMOTION |
| |
Cobb
Galleria Centre has won the first place award from the International
Association for Exhibition Management (IAEM) in the annual 2005 Art of
the Show contest.
"We’re honored to be chosen as the first place winner, as the
convention center category includes some of the biggest and most
recognizable facilities in the country,” said Michele Swann, General
Manager of Cobb Galleria Centre.
Cobb Galleria Centre’s 2004 Annual Report won best of show in the
Convention Center Promotion category. Only 31 entries from across the
country were selected as first-place winners, and 25 were awarded
honorable mention. The Art of the Show contest recognizes excellence in
promotional materials for the exhibition industry. It includes 12
different categories of competition spanning three show sizes. |

| COBB ENERGY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE MAKES PROGRESS ON CONSTRUCTION, FUNDRAISING |
| |
The
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre has been under construction for more
than a year, and things are on track for an on-time opening in fall
2007. The Cobb Galleria Centre has assembled an impressive team of
business and community leaders to direct fundraising for this
first-class project.
The Cobb Energy Centre Foundation recently added two new big names
to its board of directors: Jack Ward, chairman, president and CEO of
Russell Corporation; and Jerry Nix, vice chairman, executive vice
president of finance and chief financial officer of Genuine Parts
Company.
The Foundation has named two chairmen for its Capital Campaign
Committee: Cobb County Commission Chairman Sam Olens and Cousins
Properties President and CEO Tom Bell. Olens, Bell and the rest of the
Foundation will secure financial resources for the Centre and act as a
fiduciary of those resources. Funds raised by the Foundation will
support construction of the facility and establish an endowment to
secure its future and expansion. They are pursuing naming rights,
grants, corporate funding and community pledges.
Another grand gift has been made in support of the Cobb Energy
Performing Arts Centre. Businessman and civic leader John A. Williams,
whose early and enduring support for the project has been a driving
force in its development, pledged his personal money for naming rights
to the theatre. The elegant theatre will bear the name “John A.
Williams Theatre” in honor of the man who served as the inaugural
chairman of the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority,
which spearheaded development of Cobb Galleria Centre in the mid-1980s.
Williams’ passionate leadership helped keep alive the vision of a
companion world-class performing arts center for the area.
The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, a $145 million project, is
the first major performing arts facility built in metro Atlanta in four
decades. Located at Akers Mill Road and Cobb Galleria Parkway, adjacent
to Interstate 75 in northwest Atlanta, Cobb Energy Centre will be a
premier venue for concerts, Broadway shows, ballet, education and
family shows, opera, corporate meetings and events. The facility will
include the 2,750-seat John A. Williams Theatre, 10,000-square-foot
ballroom, a courtyard, terrace, 1,000 parking spaces and full-service
food and beverage capabilities.
Projected opening is in fall 2007. For more information, visit http://www.cobbenergycentre.com/.

| CUMBERLAND MALL MAKEOVER, BLUEPRINT CUMBERLAND PROJECTS ARE UNDERWAY |
| |
The
Cumberland Galleria area in northwest Atlanta is on its way to becoming
a true live-work-play community. From a $65 million makeover of
Cumberland Mall to a $25 million investment in infrastructure through
Blueprint Cumberland, the community surrounding Cobb Galleria Centre
has been bolstered by the development of quality residential, dining,
retail and entertainment venues.
By the end of this year, Cumberland Mall is set to be transformed.
The former Macys has been demolished to make way for restaurants and
boutiques, including Maggiano’s Little Italy. The former JC Penney also
has been torn down for the construction of a Costco warehouse club.
Inside the mall, the food court and bathrooms have been renovated, and
additional interior renovations are underway.
As part of the Cumberland Community Improvement District’s
Blueprint Cumberland strategic plan, streetscape improvement projects
are in the works throughout the area, including 1-285/Cobb Parkway,
Cobb Galleria Parkway, and Akers Mill Road (all scheduled to be
finished in early 2007), Cumberland Boulevard (scheduled to be finished
in 2007) and Cobb Parkway (scheduled to be finished in 2008). Most of
these projects encompass landscaping, lighting, sidewalk and other
beautification projects.
In addition, several residential and mixed-use projects are planned
that will bring more high-end homes and retail to the area. Keep
watching as the Cumberland Galleria area transforms! |

STAFF MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
PASTRY CHEF MICHAEL MARTINS |
| |
If
you’ve had dessert or pastry at the Cobb Galleria Centre recently,
you’ve noticed a new level of presentation and taste. That’s because
the Centre has hired award-winning pastry chef Michael Martins.
With more than 20 years of experience, Martins’ culinary creations
are sumptuous, elegant and creative, and he’s made a spectacular
impression on all of our taste buds in just three months on the job.
Martins, a chocolate specialist, is famous for his nationally
award-winning Mudslide Pie, which won a prestigious contest by Oreo
Cookies for the best recipe that uses Oreos. Inspired by the Mudslide
drink, Martins’ winning creation combines Oreos, Kahlua, Bailey’s and
milk chocolate. If this dessert – or any of Martins’ other recipes – is
on your menu at your next Cobb Galleria Centre event, you’re in for a
real treat. We think the folks at Oreo Cookies should know.
Martins, a Norcross resident, has many years of experience at some
of the finest dining establishments up and down the east coast: His
experience includes the Five Diamond Le Maire restaurant located in the
Five Diamond Jefferson Hotel (Richmond, Va.), the Sonesta Beach Resort
(Miami), the Five Diamond Westin Resort (Hilton Head, Fla.), The Coach
& Six Restaurant (Atlanta) and most recently the Atlanta Athletic
Club. He has won numerous awards from the American Culinary Foundation,
including two gold medals, two silver medals, a Best in Show award and
an honor for Most Original Display. |

COBB GALLERIA CENTRE IS THE PLACE
TO BE FOR SOCIAL, CHARITY EVENTS |
| |
The
first quarter of 2006 was a hot time for the social and charity
community in Atlanta, and many of these fundraising events called Cobb
Galleria Centre home. In January, the Centre played host to the 64th
Cobb Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, with almost 1,000 business and
political leaders in attendance.
February brought “The Best of Atlanta” show, a fundraiser held by
Atlanta Magazine to support Camp Twin Lakes. The Centre also hosted the
American Heart Association’s Cobb Heart Ball, a black-tie event
attended by more than 700 people. In addition to raising money for the
American Heart Association, the event paid tribute to the late Marietta
Mayor and former Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority
Member Ansley Meaders and honored Dr. Gregory Simone, founder of
Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C., in Marietta.
For the fifth year, the Oscars came to the Cobb Galleria Centre in
March, as the Centre hosted Atlanta’s only Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences sanctioned Oscar Night® America Party. Proceeds from
the black-tie gala benefited The Center for Family Resources. Cobb
Galleria Centre is proud to be the host and a supporter of these
community events. |

| EVENT SPOTLIGHT: TECHTEXTIL NORTH AMERICA |
| |
The most
comprehensive trade show and symposium for technical textiles and
nonwovens was back again at the Cobb Galleria Centre March 28-30.
During those three days, the world’s leading companies in the technical
textiles and nonwovens industry met for education, networking and
business development.
The fourth edition of Techtextil North America attracted
record-breaking attendance of more than 4,000 visitors and an
impressive group of more than 300 exhibitors, many of which were
international. The world-class symposium included a panel of prominent
expert faculty in the technical textile field.
“The Cobb Galleria Centre has been a perfect fit for our show, said
Linda Lizzardi Rubin, vice president of Messe Frankfurt, the show
organizer. “The building itself is so easy to access and work in, and
the staff is responsive to our ever-changing needs and requirements.
Being in the Cobb Galleria Centre makes it easier to help our customers
and visitors be successful – ensuring our event’s success.”
Techtextil North America showcases the higher performance areas of
technical textiles and is the only trade show that assembles all
vertical aspects of the technical textile industry.
“We have held the show at the Cobb Galleria Centre since its
inception in 2000, and we find the location convenient and accessible
for both international participants as well as those driving in from
neighboring states,” Rubin said. “The local community provides great
southern hospitality, and local businesses offer many diverse choices.” |
