If you have been to the Cobb Galleria Centre lately via Cobb Parkway south, you may have noticed roadwork. The Cumberland Community Improvement District (CID) in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) and Cobb County are in the process of widening Cobb Parkway from Paces Mill to Akers Mill Roads as well as reconstructing and widening the U.S. Highway 41 Bridge about 3/4 mile south of the Centre.

41WideningUSE

The busy mile of Cobb Parkway will increase in size from four to six lanes with a raised median and a multi-use trail that will connect to national park land. Reconstruction of the bridge will result in multiple long-term benefits for the area including safer traffic flow, greater capacity, improved connectivity between Cobb and Fulton counties and better access to nearby recreation facilities. The new bridge will have a six-lane capacity along with pedestrian and bicycle amenities.

The projected completion date for the bridge portion of the project is in 2015. The projected completion date for the road-widening project is in 2017.
