Governor Brian Kemp proclaims June 2019 Square Dance Month in Georgia!

Square Dancing is the official folk dance of Georgia. It has a long tradition of providing entertainment for Georgians.

For almost 70 years, square dancers from all over the world have gathered each year for four days of dancing, classes and shopping. The event is held every year in a different city in the United States, and this will be the first time Georgia has hosted the National Square Dance Convention®. More than 8,000 colorful ruffled skirts, rhinestone shirts and western hats will take over the Cobb Galleria Centre from June 26-29 for a once-in-a-lifetime display of dancing.

The 68th National Square Dance Convention® expects to draw dancers of all ages and leaders from across the globe to stay in Cobb County to experience the four-day event of dancing and dance education. 2019 Convention General Chairmen Louis and Angie McClure and the National Executive Committee selected Atlanta and the Cobb Galleria Centre over numerous competing cities and venues.

“With its 320,000 square feet of event space, close proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and connectivity between the convention center and the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel, the Cobb Galleria Centre is the perfect place to host our event,” Angie McClure said.

“Hosting the National Square Dance Convention is a huge win for Cobb County,” said Michele Swann, General Manager and CEO of the Cobb Galleria Centre. “Local support from Louis and Angie McClure and our hospitality partners strengthened the bid and helped us stand out from the competition.”
