The Cobb-Marietta Coliseum & Exhibit Hall Authority has two new members for the new year. The Authority appointed Connie Engel of Childress Klein, while Smyrna Mayor Derek Norton joins the Authority by virtue of his public office. Engel fills the unexpired term of Earl Smith, who retired at the end of the year, while Norton replaces retired Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon.

Engel is a partner in the Atlanta Office Division of Childress Klein and has overseen development and leasing at the prestigious 2.3 million-square-foot Atlanta Galleria for over 30 years. Engel’s wide-ranging community involvement includes being a board member of the Cumberland Community Improvement District, a trustee of the Kennesaw State University Foundation, and a director for Renasant Bank.

Norton grew up in Cobb County and is a graduate of the University of Georgia. He is the Director of Government Relations for the Medical Association of Georgia, where he represents physicians and patients across the state.

Norton previously worked for Congressman Johnny Isakson as a legislative aide. He has served on several local boards and committees including the Board of Directors for Keep Smyrna Beautiful and the Smyrna Business Association, the Executive Committee for the Smyrna Vision initiative, and served three terms as president of the Afton Downs Homeowners Association.
