You may know him from his friendly greeting while holding the door open when you enter Cobb Galleria Centre, or you may just know him as “Mr. Powers.”

But what is clear to everyone who meets Public Safety Officer Edward Powers is that he has an enduring dedication to his work and his co-workers. “I love the Cobb Galleria Centre. I do. I love the people I work with and around. It’s like looking after your family,” he said.

Powers works the early shift and is responsible for physical security of the building and parking lots including monitoring, making sure doors are secure, checking equipment and making rounds. “Hopefully we make our guests feel secure, that you and your property are being looked after,” he said.

His positive attitude and commitment to service are contagious, but Powers is quick to attribute his work ethic and motivation to several role models with whom he works. “I am motivated and inspired every day just by the people I work with,” he said.

A six-year employee of the Centre, Powers came to the venue via Dupree Security, where he worked contract security for shows at the Centre for three years. Prior to moving to the Atlanta area in 2011, Powers spent 25 years working in security at the Savannah River Site, a U.S. Department of Energy industrial complex located in South Carolina that is responsible for the disposition of nuclear materials. He is also a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard.

Originally from West Virginia, Powers lives in Smyrna with his wife of 48 years. He has seven children, 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
